A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?

Dinamismo di un cane al guinzaglio which translates to Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash by Giacomo Balla really stood out to me because I do love dogs and I enjoy how the artist shows it in motion as well as the neutral colors used. My grandma and I both enjoy this piece and point it out every time we visit the gallery.

La Bassin du Jas de Bouffan which translates to The Pool at Jas de Bouffan by Paul Cezanne also stood out to me. I was drawn to it because of the different blues and greens used and the calmness of the piece. From reading more about it I discovered that Jas de Bouffan means place of high winds. Knowing this makes me look at the photo and picture the trees blowing in the wind.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
(picture from website)
I feel a connection with the Bust of a Man piece from 1411-1375 BC because it's amazing to me that people thousands of years ago were able to create pieces like these. I'm very interested in history and archaeology so this was especially intriguing.

La Source de la Loue which translates to The Source of the Loue by Gustave Courbet stood out to me because I wasn't sure what it was until I read a little more about it. After finding out that it's a river you can notice the dept of the piece which I thought made it unique.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
oil on canvas 1913

I would like to know more about Franz Marc's Die Wolfe because it's mentioned that he used to only paint beautiful and calm pieces of animals like horses and deer. It's such a drastic change in color and form and it's quite interesting that he started to mimic dark times in the real world. I would like to know more about his switch into this new style.

I would like to know more about the piece Man in a Hammock by Albert Gleizes and about why he chose to use such a large scale compared to others. I would also like to know more about what other people see when they first look at the piece because before reading about it or even looking at the title I thought of it as the inside of a castle.
We both chose the first painting as one that had an impression on us, and we had the same reasoning behind it. I also really like dogs. I like the way you elaborated your responses. Other than the first painting, we did not choose any of the same ones. It was cool to see other peoples opinions on what interests them. I enjoyed reviewing your project, I think you did well.
ReplyDeleteI really like the two images you wanted to know more about. It reminds me of one of the images I used as well, Danseuse au cafe. They provoke a lot of confusion but it is very intriguing. I found myself trying to mentally arrange the pieces like a puzzle. I liked that you wanted to know more about the artists switch in style. It happens more often than I thought. But, I understand as well. I wouldn't want to continue to do the same thing over and over again. I also liked that you mentioned wanting to know what other people see when they look at Man in a Hammock. It looks like a rearranged cathedral scene to me, but I do also see the man in the hammock.
