Video Review Module 7

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Architecture: The Science of Design - Downtown areas in cities are constantly being developed and remade because of the amount of people there daily. Architects started creating skyscrapers and larger buildings once concrete and steel were discovered.

Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art - Frank Gehry has a museum in Bilbao that is said to be one of the greatest works of contemporary architecture and has also changed the culture of architecture.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Architecture: The Science of Design -The text and video discuss different styles of architecture and reasons why they're used and not used. The video goes more in depth with technology than the text and it's interesting to see them tied together.

Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art - The text describes different styles of architecture and the video shows it in action. We get to see Frank Gehry's designs being made and how they come together.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

Architecture: The Science of Design - I found it interesting in the video how people are able to use certain technology to see how buildings will react in different weather conditions like wind. I've always been fascinated by architecture so seeing the steps people go through and the different technology that's involved was very interesting to me. It definitely helps me see the bigger picture.

Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art - This video follows Frank Gehry's designs and ideas and how his creations are made. Both videos are very different, but still on the architecture subject. It's interesting to hear what goes through an architects' head when they're working on different designs.

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?

Architecture: The Science of Design - I chose this video because I'm very interested in the sciences of things, especially being a biology major.

Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art - I chose this video because I wanted to see how some ideas are made and changed throughout the creating process. Seeing finished products and the ideas they started as is fascinating.
