Module 6 - vid review

For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

1.) Emmanuel knew that he wanted to be a sculpture since he was young and as he got older he became fascinated with restoring monuments. Restoration sculptures usually focus on a specific part of the sculpture like the face, hands or legs.

2.) Glass is a preferred material in architecture because of its many uses. Reflecting glass can be used to help keep the heat in rooms. Glass is good for thermal insulation because of the fine layer of metallic oxides in the glass or on its surface.

How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

1.) The text and video discusses using clay for sculptures, but the text goes more into detail on casting as well. We get to watch carving in progress in the video and the text discusses more on the topic.

2.) The text and video discusses different glass making techniques as well as different things that can be made with each technique. Both talk about stained glass and glass blowing and why glass is so popular.

What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

1.) The first video adds depth and understanding to the topic of sculpture because it follows a sculpture, Emmanuel Fillion, as he creates a new piece made from clay into one made of marble. It's easier to grasp a concept when you can not only read about it, but watch someone take that information and create something with it.

2.) The second video adds depth and understanding to the topic of craft and installation because it discusses making glass and the reasons people choose it over others. The text explains more about why its popular and the video shows us the process of each glass making technique. And as I said for video one, its easier to grasp a concept when you can read and then watch the information being put to work.
